Inauguration ceremony of new research establishment of IMPE-Quy Nhon
On 9th October 2014, the Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology Quy Nhon organised the solemn inauguration ceremony of the new research building, located at precinct 8, Nhon Phu ward, Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province. Attendees in the inauguration included Prof. Nguyen Thanh Long-deputy minister of Ministry of Health (MoH) and leadership of the MoH's departments/bureaus/institutes; Mr. Mai Thanh Thang-vice chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee (PC) and leadership of provincial departments/services/branches; leadership of PCs of Nhon Phu and Nguyen Van Cu wards; leadership of malaria control centers/centres for preventive medicine of 15 provinces of Central Vietnam; representatives of companies/enterprises; former leaders, incumbent directorate and all the staff members of IMPE-Quy Nhon. After the welcoming music show, Dr. Nguyen Van Chuong, Director of IMPE-Quy Nhon delivered the report on the establishment and finishing process of the building. The report stressed that the Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology Quy Nhon (IMPE-QN) is a constituent body belonging to the Ministry of Health (MoH), with the functions and responsibilities of conducting scientific research work and providing specialised guidelines on malaria, other parasitic and vector-borne diseases and epidemic control measures; providing training, health communication and education, international co-operation. The operation scale of IMPE-QN includes 15 provinces, of which 11 are in coastal areas, from Quang Binh to Binh Thuan and 4 in Central Highlands (Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak, Dak Nong). Experiencing nearly 40 years' development, under the direct leadership of the MoH and the support of people's committees and health departments of regional provinces, the Directorate and staff-members of the Institute have strived to work efficiently and creatively under any difficult and challenging conditions to superbly fulfill their delegated duties. The malaria indexes (malaria morbidity, severe and complicated malaria, malaria mortality) have decreased significantly and malaria outbreaks have been controlled comprehensively, contributing in the people's health protection, care and improvement. As a result, IMPE-QN has been presented noble rewards by the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Government of Vietnam, the Ministry of Health and other unions. | New research establishment of IMPE-QN |
Presently, the ecological environment of Central Vietnam has undergone considerable changes; besides, more and more emerging and reemerging infectious diseases have occured. The expanding construction project of IMPE-QN was approved by the Minister of Health at the Decision No 4258/QD-BYT dated 30th October 2008, with the objectives: to develop IMPE-QN into a leading specialised Institute of Central Vietnam, which is on a par with other regional and national institutes in the field of preventive medicine; to have full capacity for studying and controlling tropical diseases such as malaria, dengue, lymphatic filariasis, other parasitic and vector-borne diseases; to meet the specialised staff's needs of scientific research and training; to be a probation establishment of medical secondary schools or medical universities; to provide post-graduate training in parasitology; to ensure modern material facilities and equipment and standardised staff to be capable enough to access and apply technical and scientific progress of the health sector and the world today.

The construction project of new Institute building has been basically finished the phase 1 and handed-over into exploitation and operation. The new office building includes 5 working floors and 1 ground floor with the total construction area of 1,560 metres and usage area of 7,530 metres; the working area of 2,450 metres is for 5 specialised departments, 1,820 metres for research labs and the remains for funtional departments, halls, seminar rooms, etc. The whole building is fully installed the project-associated systems and equipment such as specialised furniture system, shelving, lab illumination system, hall/seminar room furniture; fire and lightning protection systems, LAN, internal telephone, air conditioning and elevator. Hoping that with such a spacious and modern establishment the Institute will constinuously implement the entrusted duties pertaining to scientific research and specialised direction on the control of malaria, other parasitic and vector-borne diseases as well as training of human resources for the health sector in general and Binh Dinh province in particular, contributing to the cause of the people's health care and protection. | Leadership representatives of MoH, Binh Dinh Provicial People's Committee, IMPE-QN and contractor cutting the inauguration band. |
