IMPE Quy Nhon carrying out a survey of diagnosis and treatment for Fascioliasis in 4 hospitals of Quang Nam province
In order to evaluate the effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment for Fascioliasis in Quang Nam province, IMPE Quy Nhon chose 4 provincial and local polyclinics: Quang Nam Provincial General Hospital, North Quang Nam General Hospital, North Quang Nam Mountainous Area Hospital, and Hiep Duc Private Hospital. The results showed that: Most of the hospitals received Egaten 250mg provided by IMPE Quy Nhon from 2006 for treatment and North Quang Nam mountainous area hospital admited the greatest number of patients. However, there are still a lot of difficulties in diagnosing Fascioliasis in these hospitals: the immunological examination by ELISA hasn't been carried out yet; blood samples have to be sent to Da Nang Hospital C for Fasciola hepatica detection (excluding the provincial general hospital which has just been carrying out this technique since 2007); stools examination for the parasite eggs hasn't been attached importance yet; medical technicians from some hospitals haven't identified the various forms of Fasciola hepatica eggs; the disease diagnosis mainly depends on ultrasonic results and clinical symptoms. Because the number of doctors were trained in diagnosing and treating Fascioliasis is rather few, the dosage of Egaten 250mg is still not reasonable in some hospitals, even North Quang Nam general hospital has used Praziquantel 600mg for long twelve-day treatment course (this medicine is only an effective treatment for Clonorchiasis, not for Fascioliasis). | | Dr. Nguyen Van Chuong and the Institute's staff are at the laboratories of Quang | examining clinical records and checking the activities Nam Provincial General Hospital | After meeting with these hospitals, the Institute's staff also organized a training course on the premises for doctors from 2 major hospitals (Quang Nam Provincial General Hospital and North Quang Nam Mountainous Area Hospital) and exchanged the professional knowledge and skills in diagnosing and treating Fascioliasis with the rest of hospitals. Hoping that the diagnosis and treatment for Fascioliasis in Quang Nam hospitals will be improved after this survey. | | The Institute's staff is organizing a training on the premises for | course of diagnosing and treating Fascioliasis doctors from hospitals. |
