Phần 2: Thuốc mới hữu ích trong chiến lược loại trừ sốt rét toàn cầu
Một trong những nghiên cứu được coi là thành tựu quan ttrongj của nền y học thế giới đó là nghiên cứu phát triển thuốc mới thuộc nhóm 8-aminoquinolein loại Tafenoquine (liệu trình 1 ngày) nhằm thay thế cho thuốc primaquine cũng là một đồng phân của chúng trong nhóm bởi nhược điểm của thuốc primaquine phosphate này là dùng thuốc phải dùng nhiều ngày (14 ngày theo khuyến cáo của quốc gia và Tổ chức Y tế thế giới) không thể đạt được sự tuân thủ hết liệu trình của các bệnh nhân.
Điều này sẽ dẫn đến còn tồn tại thể ẩn, thể ngủ trong tế bào gan của các bệnh nhân sốt rét nhiễm P. vivax và P. ovale và có thể xem đây là một trong những thách thức trong lộ trình tiến tới loại trừ sốt rét ở Việt Nam và trên thế giới.
