Người lành mang ký sinh trùng sốt rét không biểu hiện triệu chứng: nguy cơ gây thiếu máu mạn tính và tăng động lực lan truyền
Một trong những vấn đề quan tâm đến làm thế nào để loại trừ sốt rét sớm và đúng mục tiêu và thời gian từ nay đến năm 2030 theo Chiến lược toàn cầu 2016-2030 là sự tồn tại một tỷ lệ không nhỏ ký sinh trùng kể cả P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. knowlesi, P. malariae, P. ovale trong cộng đồng, qua một số điều tra chưa đầy đủ tại một số quốc gia vùng Tiểu vùng sông Mekong (GMS), trong đó có cả Việt Nam cho thấy tỷ lệ trung bình dao động của tỷ lệ người lành mang ký sinh trùng không biểu hiện triệu chứng tại vùng lưu hành thấp, lưu hành vừa và lưu hành nặng của bệnh sốt rét lần lượt là 5%; 10% và 15%.
Một nghiên cứu gần đây của Viện Sốt rét-KST-CT Quy Nhơn từ năm 2018-2019 tại một huyện có sốt rét lưu hành tương đối nặng và dai dẳng, có giao lưu biên giới với Campuchia và quanh năm có sốt rét lưu hành cũng cho tỷ lệ nhiễm trùng không triệu chứng qua xét nghiệm mới rt-qPCR để phát hiện cả thể vô tính và thể hữu tính của P. falciparum và P. vivax trong cộng đồng như một mối đe dọa thầm lặng và dẫn đến thiếu máu mạn tính cho các nhóm trẻ em nhỏ và phụ nữ mang thai.
